HONG KONG, January 21 - Australian veteran David McKenzie, who finished 35th on the OneAsia Order of Merit last year, got his 2013 season off to a flying start with victory in the Turner Plumbing Victorian PGA Championship at the weekend.
McKenzie, 45, won the PGA Tour of Australasia title at the Forest Resort Creswick course by two strokes, beating fellow OneAsia members Scott Laycock, Stephen Dartnall and Matthew Griffin into the minor placings.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said McKenzie. “Words are eluding me now. I actually lost a Victorian PGA by missing a short putt about 20 years ago, so it’s nice to actually win.”
McKenzie's best finish on OneAsia last year was joint 10th at both the Thailand Open and Charity High1 Resort Open.
OneAsia's 2013 season begins on March 14 with the Thailand Open.
